Illustrator: Why it is my favorite Adobe software?
"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun."
- Albert Einstein
Ever since my first interaction with Adobe software's in high school, I knew that design was something I wanted in my future career in some form. I first started to design using Adobe photoshop and it was amazing the things that could be done to images and even just designing in general. I thought that it was not too challenging to design with and play around with the different features to design creative and fun images. It is a great software that has many different uses for designing and my favorite tools in Photoshop had to be the blur tool and the select tool. I have used both tools in countless projects in the past and they have always helped me to design some good portfolio work.
Shortly after I had started college, I found a new love for all Adobe software’s in a bigger way. I can gladly thank professors, Laurie Grace & Pattie Belle Hastings, for teaching more about design and the tools that we use to achieve success. I began to broaden my software scope to include numerous other Adobe software's, but the one that caught my eye the most was Adobe Illustrator. This program is such a useful design tool because it can be used to make so many different designs including, “logo designers to illustrators, animators to web designers” (Costello), and even just to design images to be used elsewhere. I love designing in Illustrator more than in Photoshop for certain projects due to the fact of pixel-based work than vector-based work which depending on the project can be more useful and precise.
“ Vector images and graphics are made of points, lines, shapes, and curves based on mathematical formulas rather than a set amount of pixels, and therefore can be scaled up or down while maintaining image quality. So, vector artwork can fit different sizes — larger or smaller — without losing any detail. ”
The applications for vector-art tend to seem more appealing with the line of design work I would like to do in the future, which hopefully will include working on a product design team or marketing team for a good company.
As I get ready to leave college behind, the one thing I will take with me is all the design lessons and memories. After using Adobe programs for more than 7 years, and exploring countless other competing design programs, I will always be an Adobe designer. This has nothing against any other design programs, but Adobe just knows how to make designers happy and programs that do what designers want. This can be seen by the numerous amounts of different design programs that Adobe has to offer, and they are always updating their software to add new features. “Adobe Creative Cloud offers access to over 20 applications, ranging from photo editing, designing and publishing web pages, to creating animations and visual effects.” (Nobledesktop) Whether you are just starting out as a designer or a seasoned designer, Adobe has everything you need when it comes to design and if you need to make art that can scale easily and maintain good quality, Illustrator is the right move 100% of the time.
