Cinemagraphs

Where Stillness Meets Motion: Crafting Cinemagraphs That Mesmerize"

Overview

A Cinemagraph is essentially a still image that has a minor aspect that is a recurring motion or any motion. Cinemagraphs are usually exported similarly to gifs, while there are other alternatives to creating and exporting them which make the product even better.

Design process

Initial attempt

This was my first attempt in class at creating a cinemagraph. It is not much but for the first time I am proud of how it came out. I first downloaded the file into photoshop and then moved the image file out of the video group. After the file was moved, I erased the video layer where I wanted it and I was able to do this because I had moved the image file outside of the video group.

Once, I had the cinemagraph performing how I wanted it. I added a filter to make it look like a burned burger that was forgotten about because of something causing shock in the part of the image that we cannot see. I finally adjusted the frame rate to 15 FPS to make the file smaller and load faster.

Second cinemagraph

My first attempt outside of class is a very simple cinemagraph but creative and easy to miss. I first moved the image out of the video group shown below and then started to erase over the image layer to uncover the video behind. I attempted these multiple different ways including with my hand instead of the reflection,

yet my wrist was moving too much, and I did not like how it was turning out. Finally deciding on the way, I wanted the cinemagraph to look so I added a filter that seems to make the image look older and I am very proud with how it turned out.

Final cinemagraph

This is my second attempt, and I wanted to do a cinemagraph that involved the weather because it is so powerful and simple at the same time. I decided to take a picture of a car that was driving by through the open window. After taking the picture and video how I wanted, all there was left to do was edit. I wanted the cinemagraph to be simple but intriguing at the same time, so I decided to have one panel from the window move. I painted over the picture with the erase tool to unveil the video below. Overall, I am very happy with my attempts at cinemagraphs and I am excited to work with them in the future.
